Eventually, after travelling for nearly 50 miles over two hours and 45 minutes, they managed to jump onto the train and bring it safely under control near Pittsburg station. Fortunately no one got hurt during this incident but millions of dollars worth of damages were incurred in property damage due to derailment caused by the runaway train.
The crew of CSX 8888 was made up of engineer, Edward Conklin, and conductor, Devin Wyckoff. They had been working together for over a year when they were assigned to take the freight train from its origin in Indiana to its destination in Ohio.
